Unique publication by Grupa Azoty with Edyta Ropek - champion of sport climbing

What do great athletes have in common with great leaders? Courage, the will to challenge stereotypes, the tenacity to pursue difficult goals and the ability to inspire greatness in others. Now, Grupa Azoty has created a unique publication to remind us of these qualities and the sporting heroes who embody them. Featuring the best Polish athletes, the exclusive Sport Champions 2014 calendar is an opportunity to stand eye-to-eye with the likes of Robert Kubica, Piotr Żyła, Kamil Stoch, Paweł Zagumny and many others.

Corporate calendars are nothing new – every large company has one. Sadly, the majority are far from extraordinary. Only few are worth actually displaying, and even fewer ever inspire conversation. However, Grupa Azoty has decided to do something different. Published by Grupa Tomami, its 2014 calendar features solely athletes, but not as we know them. We usually see these hard-working men and women from a distance, their faces obscured by goggles or helmets. But now we can take a closer look. The extraordinary Sport Champions 2014 calendar presents twelve portraits of sportsmen and women sponsored by Grupa Azoty, taken by Paweł Stelmach, winner of Azoty Tarnów’s 2010 ATT Photo Award competition.

Among those presented, the calendar also features Edyta Ropek, vice world champion in sport climbing and multiple World Cup holder and Karolina Riemen-Żerebecka, ski cross World Cup bronze medallist and multiple freestyle skiing medallist. Photographs of footballer Marcin Robak and the distinguished volleyballers Małgorzata Glinka-Mogentale and Anna Werblińska are particularly expressive. Other greats in the calendar include Bartłomiej Mróz, second in global para-badminton, and Michał Ruciak, whose achievements include a gold medal in the European volleyball championship finals and a bronze in the Volleyball World League. Also present is Janusz Kołodziej, a team and individual world speedway champion but also a holder of the Gold Cross of Merit, which he received for his role in promoting speedway racing in Poland.

The photographs are simple, peaceful and balanced, and yet also bursting with expressive power. They evoke a sense of familiarity with the viewer. The success of the portrayed ceases to be a dry statistic, a mere place on the podium, and becomes something closer and more personal.
